Individual Cash Donation / Arizona Tax Credit

credit cards accepted

Gifts from individuals work hand in hand with home sponsorship funding. They are used to purchase and develop land, buy products and tools for home construction and fund program expenses.

Your gift, regardless of the amount, really does make a difference. For example, $20 pays for a 50 pound box of nails and $50 pays for a qualified and approved homeowner to attend a new homeowner education class.

Because HFHDF is a registered 501(C)(3) non-profit organization, all contributions are tax deductible. For every gift made, a formal letter is sent, which can be used as a receipt for tax purposes.

Thanks to the Arizona charitable tax credit law, state taxpayers now have more incentive to make cash donations to qualified charitable organizations such as Habitat for Humanity Desert Foothills. Contributions may earn a dollar-for dollar tax credit up to $400 on a joint return and $200 on a single return on Arizona income tax. Cash contributions will receive a formal thank you letter, which can serve as a donation receipt for tax purposes.

Cars For Homes

http://www.habitat.org/carsforhomes/

Donated cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, RVs and other vehicles are sold and the funds raised help build simple, decent homes in partnership with low-income families. Vehicle donors receive an acknowledgement letter for their donation that may used for tax purposes if they itemize deductions. Vehicle, title and contact information is collected, and upon acceptance of the vehicle, arrangements are made for the vehicle, keys and title to be picked up.

House Sponsor

Habitat for Humanity Desert Foothills' sponsors not only contribute funding for the "bricks and sticks" of the home, but they can also provide volunteers to help build the home. Sponsors participate at varying financial levels, from a full house sponsorship to partial sponsorship.

In-Kind Donations

In-kind donations of material and labor are always welcome. Many home sponsors solicit in-kind donations to support the fund raising effort for the cost of the sponsorship. Others have access to contractors who would like to use their skills on the Habitat home. In-kind values vary and are determined by Habitat based on the cost savings we obtain.

An in-kind donation MUST BE a service or product needed to complete the home. The list of materials can vary based on different house styles. The donation must be a complete package ie, HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, etc. Only one of each package will be accepted. The work must be completed by a licensed contractor or journeyman and meet the current local building codes. This work must also pass municipal and city inspections.

If donations are placed in the house that do not comply with the plans or without prior approval, they may have to be removed and replaced – the cost of this would then be borne by the home sponsor.

A home may not be sponsored by in-kind donations alone. At least half of the sponsorship cost must be cash donation.

For more information on how to support Habitat for Humanity through construction in-kind gifts please call the Habitat office at (623) 551-6000 or email us at trogers@habitatdf.org

Property

Gifts of real estate and property helps HFHDF build more homes. Outright gifts of property, such as undeveloped land, or real estate, including a second home or vacation property that is not mortgaged and has appreciated in value, allows a donor to deduct the fair market value of the gift and avoid all capital gains taxes. Retained gifts, such as a personal residence or farm, allows a donor to continue using the property for their lifetime while receiving a charitable deduction based on life expectancy and property value.
